Rancho Mirage, Calif., Oct. 2, 2013 — The associate director of the Motivation Science Center at the Columbia Business School, Dr. Heidi Grant Halvorson, delivered the closing keynote today at the Fall 2013 Chief Learning Officer Symposium. Concluding the meeting of top corporate learning executives hosted by Chief Learning Officer magazine, Halvorson used the opportunity to share her research on the science of motivation and apply it to building employee engagement and raising performance.
Halvorson, a highly regarded social psychologist, researcher, author and blogger, often writes about how people pursuing the same goals can be driven by completely different motivators. Using insights from her book, “Focus: Use Different Ways of Seeing the World for Success and Influence,” co-written with E. Tory Higgins, she shared strategies organizations can use to create the kind of “motivational fit” that increases employee engagement, enhances the perceived value of the work being done and improves productivity.
More than 300 chief learning officers, corporate executives, human capital management experts, and learning and development professionals attended the Symposium, which is widely recognized as the premier conference for practitioners of strategic workforce development.
