Irvine, Calif. — April 12
Huthwaite, a sales performance improvement firm, played a key role in the 15th-annual Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE) Pro-Am Sell-A-Thon.
The Pro-Am is a national competition among members of PSE, the only national, co-ed, professional fraternal organization for sales, marketing and management students.
The competition provided college students with training in Huthwaite’s patented SPIN Selling skills and the opportunity to compete in a role-playing sales call scenario.
The competition’s first-place winner was Jessica Hood from the University of Toledo.
“The Pro Am is a great opportunity to use the skills learned in a classroom setting in a real-life experience,”Hood said. “I really enjoyed working with our faculty and other PSE members to prepare. The Pro Am is a great tool to build confidence and perfect the SPIN selling techniques.”
Two senior faculty members from Huthwaite, Kevin Jones and Denise Koepke, conducted the training of the students and the coaches for the PSE Pro-Am Sell-a-Thon.
“The training Huthwaite provided our coaches and our students was outstanding,” Ann Devine, PSE executive director, said. “The comments we received from repeat competitors was that the training really was taken to the next level for the students. They truly learned the SPIN Selling model and appreciated the materials provided by Huthwaite early on.”
Another Huthwaite senior faculty member, Laird Matthews, observed the sales training and competition to identify ways to improve the program and to make the role-play as realistic as possible.
All faculty members and Huthwaite Vice President of Marketing Steve Warner also served as Pro-Am competition judges.
Concurrently, Huthwaite Vice President of Strategy and Business Development Tom Snyder facilitated a working session with university and business school professors on sales and marketing trends.
Seventy-four students participated in the 2007 national sales competition, and more than 340 students from 35 college campuses attended the convention.
“As always, we are proud to sponsor the Sell-a-Thon and commend PSE for its great work with tomorrow’s sales professionals,” Huthwaite President and CEO Kevin Kearns said. “Providing these students with the opportunity to learn and apply researched-based market-validated selling skills is a huge plus for them and for the world of professional selling. With the proper educational foundation and experiences like this national competition, these students are going to be head and shoulders above other recent college graduates in the job market.”
This is the third year Huthwaite has been involved in the PSE ProAm Sell-A-Thon.
